About
I am a qualitative social scientist with research experience in Japan and the United States. My dissertation examined decision-making related to dating, premarital sexual behavior, and contraceptive use among young women living in Tokyo. I addressed these in light of larger demographic and social shifts regarding marriage and fertility in Japan. My broader research interests include transitions to adulthood, gender and sexuality, medical anthropology (including the anthropology of reproduction), and Japanese studies. I have taught courses on medical anthropology, gender, and sexuality at the University of Chicago and American University in Washington, DC. I have worked as a research assistant at the University of Chicago and the National Opinion Research Center.
