About
I am a Ph.D. candidate in Musicology working on a dissertation about Soviet Film Musicals in the 1930s. I have already completed three months of archival research in Moscow and will return there for three more months of work in September.
My other interests include 20th-century Russian/Soviet music (particularly Shostakovich), film music, and 19th-century German music (particulalry Lieder, Wagner and Mahler).
As a bassoonist I have performed with the University of Chicago Symphony and a number of other local orchestras and chamber groups. I also teach music theory at Midwest Young Artists (www.mya.org), a Chicago-area youth music organization.
