About
As the Field Director of the Western Delta Landscape Project, my current research integrates historical maps, ancient texts, and satellite imagery to target fieldwork that investigates natural and cultural signatures on the Nile floodplain landscape. Through complementary analyses of topography, surface ceramics, and sedimentary strata, this research sheds new light on the paleo-environment and settlement patterns of the region from the New Kingdom to the late Roman period (1535 B.C.E. – 650 C.E.). Furthermore, a previously unmapped branch of the Nile has been confirmed by drill coring and remote sensing. This research was supported by a U.S. Department of State Educational and Cultural Affairs fellowship, and its significance has been recognized with a Whiting Dissertation Fellowship and an award for Best Student Paper at the 2008 meeting of the American Research Center in Egypt.
